Message from the CEO

The Campaign to ReBuild Barlow is built upon Barlow Respiratory Hospital’s legacy of more than one hundred years of specialized service. Our patients are chronically critically ill, the sickest of the sick, often hovering between life and death. Physicians and family members have a history of turning to Barlow Respiratory Hospital for hope when there seems to be no hope. They trust our expertise and our reputation for extraordinary kindness and exceptional care. Our multi-phased Master Plan to ReBuild Barlow has begun. A seismic retrofit of our historic hospital in Los Angeles is underway and will be followed by a major renovation of an adjacent building that will create an entirely new higher capacity modern hospital to serve patients for generations. The project is expected to be completed by 2022. We are honored to have the support of The Ahmanson Foundation, our boards of directors and the community. We thank each of you for bringing this long-envisioned plan to life.

The Ahmanson Foundation

The Ahmanson Foundation has awarded a grant to support the Campaign to ReBuild Barlow to renovate an existing building on our historic Los Angeles campus as a new, larger state-of-the-art hospital. Barlow Respiratory Hospital serves over 1,000 patients each year and this expansion will provide more space, more comfort and enhanced service to each patient and family member.

“We are grateful for the continued support of The Ahmanson Foundation.” said
Amit Mohan, President and CEO of Barlow Respiratory Hospital. “This generous grant moves our Los Angeles campus renovation and expansion forward. It illustrates a meaningful commitment to our mission to make a difference in the lives of our patients. On behalf of our Barlow Respiratory Hospital staff, our patients, their families and our community I thank The Ahmanson Foundation.”

The Ahmanson Foundation has been a significant supporter of Barlow Respiratory Hospital over several years with a series of grants totaling $120,000 for equipment and clinical services. This most recent grant is the largest awarded to the hospital to date and represents the single largest gift to the Campaign to ReBuild Barlow.
The Ahmanson Foundation strives to enhance the quality of life and cultural legacy of the Los Angeles community with funding of arts and humanities, education, human services, and health and medicine. The foundation’s grants in these areas are largely dedicated toward capital projects, like Barlow Respiratory Hospital Campaign to ReBuild Barlow, including construction and renovation for non-profits based in and serving the greater Los Angeles area.
