Center of Excellence

Barlow Respiratory Hospital is recognized as a Passy-Muir Speaking Valve Center of Excellence for its commitment to quality respiratory care and improved communication for tracheostomy and ventilator patients. The Passy-Muir® Tracheostomy & Ventilator Swallowing and Speaking Valve improves quality of life by making it possible for appropriate patients to speak after prolonged mechanical ventilation. After the isolation and silence of serious illness and extended hospitalization, this provides meaningful connection with loved ones and valuable communication with medical and caregiving teams.

Barlow Respiratory Hospital’s clinical laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

American Association of Respiratory Care Quality Respiratory Care Recognition Award

Barlow Respiratory Hospital earned the prestigious honor of Quality Respiratory Care designation from the American Association for Respiratory Care in 2014, 2015 & 2016.

In 2016, Barlow Respiratory Hospital was awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Disease Specific Certification for Respiratory Failure, recognizing Barlow as a leader in ventilator weaning and respiratory failure management.

In January 2022, Barlow Respiratory Hospital was awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Disease Specific Certification for Wound Care Management.

Barlow was among a select group of hospitals nationwide to achieve these disease-specific certifications.In 2025, Barlow transitioned its hospital accreditation agency to the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ), and these two Joint Commission disease-specific certifications were not renewed.
